d e s c r i p t i o n a n d d e t a i l s Ever since Audio Physic was founded, we have been committed to providing no loss of fine detail in terms of music reproduction. So it does not come as a surprise that we have also developed a sensitivity to the subtle nuances and fine details of our product line. We felt that there was a bit of a gap between the Tempo and Avanti loudspeakers, therefore we immediately set ourselves the task of closing the gap for our audiophile customers. This is how the Scorpio came into being. The slim design of the three-and-a-half way loudspeaker is as graceful as it is timeless. In fact, the floor-standing Scorpio with its bass reflex cabinet continues the excellent value-for-money-approach of the Spark. Due to the four 7 woofers arranged as opposing pairs on either side of the extra-rigid enclosure, the Scorpio goes even further and delves into new depths. The woofers are effectively placed back-to-back and work in a push-push configuration where they move in opposite directions a principle which has already been successfully implemented in the larger Avanti loudspeaker. With its 7° angled cabinet, the Scorpios visual appearance seamlessly blends into the new line of loudspeakers manufactured by Audio Physic. Not only does the slightly angled design turn the loudspeaker into a dynamic visual stunner, it also equalises phase differences between the tweeter and midrange. A much improved localisation of sound events as well as increased punch and precision are the immediate results. The exemplary job all vintage Audio Physic products do in reproducing music with the utmost fidelity to the source is indeed remarkable and also deserves a special mention. However, if you pursue higher goals in terms of more channels for example you can take advantage of our integrative philosophy and perfectly match the Scorpio with our other high-end loudspeakers in order to complete your 5.1 or even 7.1 surround systems.
Excellent reasonsSeen from the front, the Scorpio closely resembles the popular Spark from which it has borrowed the front-firing drivers. It features an Audio Physic modified 1 soft dome tweeter, a 6 woofer/midrange driver and a 6 midrange driver. The powerful bass foundation is considerably increased by four side-firing 7 woofers. A design which in contrast to the Spark takes some stress off the midrange drivers where now less excursion is required. The bottom line is increased sovereignty and improved precision. With two woofers on each side of the cabinet, the Scorpio maintains an appealing slim profile and the extremely rigid structure helps to minimise resonances dramatically. Audio Physic uses a push-push configuration where interfering vibrations transmitted from the woofers to the cabinet effectively cancel each other out, because each cone moves in an opposite direction from the other.
Removing the sting of vibrationsAlthough it is not commonly known, vibrations transmitted from the cabinet to the cable and associated electronic equipment have a sonically adverse effect. To protect your system against such unwanted vibrations, the Scorpio is provided with the same successful vibration control terminal (VCT) that all new Audio Physic models have in common: the solid unit is made of massive aluminium and fitted with neoprene for elastic suspension. The Scorpio also comes with elegantly shaped metal stands to insulate the loudspeaker from the floor; a very handsome and hands-on solution which helps to easily adjust the protruding spikes from above. The elegant and striking design of the cabinet secure an enourmous stability. The push-push arrangement of the four 7 woofers avoids resonances and the very high quality mid and high range drivers easily follow any dynamic attack. |
